Astrodesign, Inc. (headquartered in Ota-ku, Tokyo; Shigeaki Suzuki, President & CEO; hereinafter “Astrodesign”) will release the SP-8870-CM, a color gamut evaluation system for measuring the color gamut of 8K TVs and panel modules.

In cooperation with NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation), Astrodesign has developed the IP-4030 (4K compatible)/IP-8030 (8K compatible) real-time MTF measurement system for measuring resolution characteristics of cameras and lenses, and the DT-8031/DT-8031-MV for measuring spatial resolution characteristics of displays. The newly released SP-8870-CM is a gamut evaluation system that automatically measures display color and supports Gamut Rings and Color Volume rendering.

・Integrated control of signal generator and measurement devices (when using Astrodesign VG-887)
・Supports rendering of Gamut Rings and Color Volume
・Supports measurement of 8K TVs and panel modules (when using Astrodesign signal generator)
・Compatible with various measurement devices such as spectroradiometers and color analyzers manufactured by Topcon Technohouse and Konica Minolta.

What are Gamut Rings?
Gamut Rings is a new method for expressing the range of color reproduction (color gamut) of displays, developed by NHK Science & Technical Research Laboratories. It was adopted as an international standard by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) in January 2021, by the International Committee for Display Metrology (ICDM) in July 2021, and by the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) in November 2021. It is expected to be able to correctly represent the size and shape of color gamut volumes in two dimensions, and to be useful in the performance comparison and selection of various displays and televisions, including display design and performance evaluation.
